Review: Rebel Moon Blues by Sass Jordan

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Sass Jordan has recently released her newest offering, Rebel Moon Blues via the Stony Plain Records label on March 13, 2020.  The other artists on the record are her touring band of guitarists Chris Caddell and Jimmy Reid, bassist Derrick Brady and drummer Cassius Pereira (the Champagne Hookers), augmented by guest blues harp master Steve Marriner, and keyboardist Jesse O’Brien.  Her gritty, raspy voice, like such artists as Janis Joplin, Koko Taylor and others is showcased in this eight-track album which features her signature rock goddess vocals on seven unmistakable covers and one brand new original track which is titled, “The Key,” and such covers as “Leaving Trunk” (made famous by Taj Mahal), she get funky with the track “Palace Of The King,” (written by Leon Russell, Don Nix, and Donald “Duck” Dunn), “Too Much Alcohol,” another song stripped down to her vocals and Caddell’s resonator guitar.

My favorite track on this album is her cover of the Gary Moore classic, “Still Got The Blues.” I can listen to that track over and over again.  This is one of the best blues albums that I have listened to in a long time and looking forward to hearing earlier work and future releases.  I was quite moved with the performance on this album as well as how well it was recorded.  You’ve got to add this to your blues library and you can get your copy on Amazon, and many other music outlets on Vinyl, CD and digital download as well as from her official website www.SassJordan.com, where you can learn about this artist, see her tour schedule, and even pick up some cool merchandise.  Thank you, Mark Pucci, for turning me on to this amazing artist.
