It’s Shaping Up To Be A Monumental Year For Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats

When we caught up with Andrew Scotchie last year, we though he couldn’t be any busier than he already was. He proved us wrong.

Andrew Scotchie and his River Rats are blazing a trail of music success, right through 2019.

We asked Scotchie what he and his band have been up to, since last winter’s tour.

“Once we got back, it was a balance of touring and preparing for studio sessions that would be the beginning of our next record,” Scotchie said. “In April, we toured through West Virginia , Boone NC, Bryson City NC and we did a Fleetwood Mac tribute in our hometown of Asheville that was an absolute blast!”

“For 2 weeks in May we were lucky enough to be on tour in the beautiful NC Outer Banks.  First time we had to take a ferry to get to the gig,” Scotchie exclaimed.  “That tour essentially covered the Outer Banks and concluded at a wonderful festival in Corolla. NC called Mustang Spring Jam (this part of NC is famous for wild horses on the beach). I will always remember that tour and we plan on making it a yearly excursion.”

This summer’s tour is even more expansive for Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats, adding several new destinations and venues to the line up.

“On August 16th we will be at Memorial Park in Helena Montana, as part of the 2nd Annual Bikes, Hikes & Brews Music Festival that Lewis & Clark Brewing put on,” Scotchie says.

“I’ve spent time in Big Fork Montana for the amazing Crown of the Continent Festival and last year I played around Missoula and Polson for Flathead Lake Blues Festival, so I’m pretty familiar with how special Montana is.  It truly is one of my favorite states,” he says.

“This tour will also feature the band’s first time in Evergreen Colorado – The Little Bear Saloon on August 22nd.  We got to pass through briefly this past winter and it seemed like a really hip area, so I’m excited to see it in the summer. How can you not love Colorado?” asks Scotchie.

In addition to their multi-state tour, Scotchie and The River Rats have been working tirelessly on new music. They will be releasing several brand new singles this fall, and then releasing their new record after the first of the year.

“This September, a track called “Stepping Stone” is being released, and its proving to be our most eclectic work yet.  The song was produced by Matt Williams in Asheville, NC at Eagle Room Studios, and some truly magical moments were captured.  Matt was fantastic in helping us create a really unique composition that called back on elements of the last album but introduced new sounds unheard of to our fans. Lenny Pettinelli from Empire Strikes Brass is featured on the track playing organ/mellotron/clavinet,” says Scotchie. “We go back into the Eagle Room this fall to record some more songs and we are planning a video for “Stepping Stone” as well.  We will be teasing some artwork and audio soon.”

Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats kick off their Summer Out West Tour in August, playing shows in Idaho, Montana, Utah and Colorado.

We asked Scotchie what venues he’s most excited about returning to this year.  “I’m pumped to play the festival in Helena, but I’m also very excited about our show August 24th at the Old Town Pub in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  It’s such a great venue run by amazing people and this time through, we are featuring a special Rolling Stones/Hendrix tribute we have dubbed the ‘Rolling Experience’,”  he said. “We can’t wait for that.   We will also be taking the Rolling Experience to Kansas City on the way home, August 29th & 30th, for a two night run at Westport Saloon,” Scotchie said. “Learning some of these classics has really opened me up as a guitar player and us as a band, and its just such fun material to play in a power trio.”
