The new album Simple Things by The Band Of Heathens is out now and I can’t stop listening! The ten-track album by this roots rock band from Austin, Texas is packed full of hope, soulful inspiration, and relatable lyrics, all set to classic, good-vibe melodies.
The album Simple Things is truly a musical feast and every song, a delicious morsel. The album opens with “Don’t Let The Darkness,” an uplifting anthem about light, love, and not letting the difficult times in our lives drag us down. The Band Of Heathens performed this song live on E-Town, ahead of the release of the new album. If you love the song already, then you’re in for a real treat watching the boys sing it live.
The title track is one of my favorites on the album. It sends a message that the world needs to hear right now – to stop focusing so much on material things, live in the present moment, and notice the love and beauty that is all around us.
“Stormy Weather” is one of the first tracks the band released and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. It’s an upbeat, melodic reminder that we are all stronger than we think we are. “Damaged Goods” is a bluesy love song about sticking together through the hard times – “Send your love on a wing and a prayer. Let’s lose our baggage and I’ll take you there.”
The album culminates in a beautiful, poignant song, “All That Remains,” that speaks of family, loss and love. A song that everyone in this hurting world can relate to. “Time rolling right on past, we’re gone in just a flash. Gone just like shattered glass, broken from the pain. All that remains is love.”
After the last three challenging years our world has been through, this album is a bright musical light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to The Band Of Heathens for putting into song, what all of us have been feeling. It’s time to put those difficult times behind us and shift our focus to the pleasure of simple things.
