Four Tips For Indie Artists In This Time Of Pandemic

Regarding the music industry, in the wake of festival cancellations or shows being postponed all over the world, I wanted to say this – there are things we can do as patrons of the arts, and as musicians to keep the creativity flowing AND keep the bills paid.

It’s a scary time especially for those of us on the cusp of releasing new music, BUT we will make it! Here’s four ways you can support your fave artists, if you can’t see a live performance. If you have additional ideas, please feel free to comment. We’re all in this together, and if ever there was a time the world needs the healing power of music, it is now.

  1. Buy Their Merch Online

Whether it’s a band that had to cancel a few dates or a whole tour, a festival postponed, a venue cancellation or any business that pulls revenue from gatherings of people.

Merchandise is a huge source of income for any artist/small business owner. Can’t make a show? Show got postponed? Buy a t shirt, get a cd, poster, gift card etc. This goes for venues and bands, as well as any small business in your community.

2. Online Shows / Live Streaming

Let’s utilize technology and our online community to bring the music to the people at home, if they can’t go out and see it in person. There are several virtual performance platforms, such as Concert Window, and some offer virtual tip jars where your fans can make donations. Check out this article about how to host a successful online performance: How To Host An Online Concert

3. House Concerts

This idea may not be practical right now, with all of the quarantines going on, but once the major threat has passed, doing small house concerts may be a good way to transition back to doing large venues. Even now, you still may be able to do small house concerts, with just a handful of people.

4. Don’t Panic

Most importantly, don’t panic.  We are strong and incredibly smart people, that have the power to bounce back from scenarios like this. The show will go on. The art will never die and TOGETHER we are stronger. Keep loving, keep creating and keep caring for your fellow humans.

Even though we can’t be physically together, we must all stick together and support each other through this crisis. Below are some links to resources, that may help our indie artist friends.
